Adoption is our only option and Québec won’t let us bring a child home. 

I am grateful my province offers subsidies for fertility treatment but what happens when those fail?

We’ve been on the local adoption list for years now. With the average of one child being relinquished per year and nearly one hundred people ahead of my partner and I, we’ll age out of the system before any of that even becomes a possibility.

In late 2024, Québec implemented a moratorium on international adoption citing human trafficking among one of the reasons. Valid.

Québec is in a unique situation in North America. People in other Canadian provinces continue to have pathways to pursue international adoption. If other provinces can maintain safeguards while allowing international adoption to continue, why can’t Québec?

After many failed fertility treatments, and multiple miscarriages, we shouldn’t have to endure yet another roadblock.

How could anyone decide the fate of someone else’s family?

With Québec’s upcoming provincial election, it’s increasingly important that this issue receives the attention it deserves and that meaningful change becomes a political priority.

Québec solidaire has publicly pushed the CAQ on the international-adoption moratorium. Parti Québécois has also called for changes to the international-adoption system.

I believe Québec can protect children while also supporting people who want to adopt internationally.

On October 5 your vote is an opportunity to make sure our voices are heard at the polls. Québec needs to act.
